Steve Vito is president of GovernmentCIO Magazine. His 30-year media experience — in B2B and B2G markets — spans the continual and dramatic evolution of content delivery. Yet through this transition, Vito comes to GovernmentCIO Magazine with a devout adherence to the time-tested formula of serving the best interests of readers and sponsors alike, that is, produce and deliver quality content to a targeted audience.
Vito spent the early portion of his career with two of New York’s renowned B2B publishing powerhouses, Fairchild Publications and McGraw-Hill. At the latter firm, he was associate publisher of Byte magazine, where he earned two Corporate Chairman’s awards, one each for sales and marketing. Vito then moved to IT publishing leader IDG Communications, where he ran a small-office/home-office publication called PC Resource, and then was promoted to InfoWorld as vice president of national accounts.
IDG then moved Vito to Northern Virginia as publisher of Federal Computer Week, a weekly IT news publication. This move coincided with the increasing relevance of the internet on all elements of publishing including content development, advertising strategies and interaction with audiences. Vito later moved to Atlantic Media, where he became president of Government Executive Media Group, which housed its namesake Government Executive and provided the launching platform for the IT-focused website, Nextgov, and the research arm, Government Business Council.
Vito later expanded his media experience to include television as he co-created a 30-minute weekly business program called “Government Matters.” The program runs on ABC’s Washington affiliate WJLA and on the cable channel NewsChannel 8.
With this broad experience in media, Vito is able to help advertisers achieve their campaign objectives — for example, lead generation, thought leadership, product announcements or pure branding — while using the latest trends in marketing communications.
When he’s not working, Vito enjoys playing hockey and golf and cooking.
